Julie Cockburn

Julie Cockburn’s delicately stitched and minutely collaged portraits transmogrify the characters she finds in found photographs and old magazine cuttings. Through cutting, sewing or physically defacing the print, she redesigns and redefines the images through her beautiful, bizarre, sinister or surreal designs. ‘Something happens beyond my control with a successful work; it is greater than the sum of its simple parts, becoming a new image with a new history to unfurl.’
