Deception and confusion also reign over an original installation by Lesley Parkinson titled The Collector. Charles F. Peabody is a Victorian collector whose precious works are currently wrapped and stored for the winter season. Trinkets and silverware are blurred inside origami-like shapes and chairs are wrapped in fabrics falling into sculptural folds and forms. The ceramic treasures preserved inside bell-jars are souvenirs of travels around the British Empire. The de-saturated colour of the prints is suggestive of a Victorian mystery and the collection is encompassed in a book whose cover carries Peabody’s gold embossed name. There is another layer to this work which reflects Parkinson’s own collecting habit. Lesley Parkinson, 'The Collector' Series, Courtesy of the artist |
