Noemi Goudal

Noemie Goudal’s signature works are highly labour intensive, vast, visually confusing, deceptive, and stunningly beautiful. They involve layering photographic images. Meticulously constructed fantastical sets become printed backdrops which are photographed and inserted into the final scene. Haven her Body Was (Warren) is set in an anonymous concrete basement awaiting demolition. The eye is led to the far end wall and a cave-like rain forest dripping with vegetation. Lit from above, it suggests that it lies just beyond that grim room. The photographer explains ‘I wanted to mix the two worlds to see how they [the viewers] interact.’
