Walter Hugo works with sculpture, film and performance but is best known as an unpredictable wild chemical artist-experimenter, a modern-day maverick constantly exploring new techniques to produce ultra-modern imagery. The Glass Portraits are produced as negatives in a room converted into a camera obscura then printed on life-sized glass plates. For Developing Shadows, a studio wall becomes a ‘canvas’ for what resemble photographic frescoes. Preserving these one-off productions, the exhibition includes two documentary films Reflecting the Bright Lights and Developing Shadows.
