August Art Diary: What to see this month
As we reach our final summer month, London Art Fair Recommends a wonderful collection of exhibitions taking place across the country for you to discover this August.
For the south of England, visit group summer showcases from Rhodes Contemporary, Jenna Burlingham and Long & Ryle, alongside, solo-shows from Rabley Gallery and Vessel Gallery.
If you are exploring the Jurassic Coast, celebrate GIANT’s opening, soon to be the UK’s largest artist led space, or if you are further afield, Kerlin Gallery brings together an exclusive debut of paintings to be explored and Ikon presents ‘a moment in time’, as they reflect on their 1990 artist programme, situated within the present day.

Rhodes Contemporary Art proudly presents a dynamic collection of contemporary emerging and mid-career artists working now for this summer showcase. Kicking-off what will become an annual group show, the gallery has brought together a collection of incredibly skilled artists, working in a variety of mediums, from around the world.

SUMMER SALE

In anticipation of their upcoming move to a new gallery, the Jenna Burlingham team have put together a selection of over 120 paintings, prints and ceramics at prices from £175 to £7,500.
The existing Kingsclere gallery will be open throughout July and August, from Monday to Saturday.

This striking exhibition presents a collection of meticulously detailed studies of moths, highlighting the diverse and mysterious beauty of these night creatures. From the artist’s mezzotint prints the shimmering moths emerge humming from the darkness. The velvet black of the inked paper releases their luminous spirits.

Shimmering sculptures formed through a unique process of kiln casting and hot working that has taken the artist nearly a decade to develop will be on show to allure, mesmerise and connect the viewer. The works resemble the soft, delicate palettes of nature and reflects changing seasons, creating a translucent depth.

IKON
A VERY SPECIAL PLACE: IKON IN THE 1990s

A review of Ikon’s artistic programme in the 1990s, presenting work by 40 artists who showed during this period. With Elizabeth Macgregor as Director, Ikon’s outlook was increasingly international, whilst also showing an eclectic mix of British artists including Basil Beattie, Permindar Kaur, Keith Piper, Yinka Shonibare, Georgina Starr and Mark Wallinger.
