Running an artist estate is a complex business. From the logistics of storage, archiving and insurance, to the administration of loans, licences and contracts, promotion and publications, curatorial decision-making and reputation management, the range of skills and knowledge required is broad. Often too there are legal and financial hurdles to overcome. Addressing all these issues and getting everything in order takes time, money and patience; something executors and beneficiaries do not always have. For this discussion Artistate Ltd and Forsters LLP draw together speakers from different fields to discuss their experiences of working with and running artist estates and explore what measures artists can take to prepare for their own legacy.
