Founded in 1948, Contemporary Applied Arts (CAA) is a registered charity and London’s original multi-disciplinary crafts gallery. For over 70 years, we have championed and promoted the very best of British craft. Our aims are to advocate for the applied arts and to campaign for and foster quality and innovation in this field.

CAA is a membership organisation with over 200 British-based makers working in ceramics, furniture, glass, jewellery, metal, paper, textiles and wood. Its interdisciplinary approach creates an exciting dialogue between materials, techniques and approaches to making. CAA’s members are craft professionals, who have all been through a rigorous selection process and evaluation by a panel of their peers.

Our makers’ talent and artistic excellence are celebrated and supported through a diverse range of activities including the sale of their work from our gallery space in Marylebone, London, and through our website. We also host innovative solo and group exhibitions and participate in art and craft events such as London Craft Week and Artefact fair at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, securing significant commissions, facilitating acquisitions by major public and private collections, and running meaningful education, outreach and public programmes.
