Since England & Co was founded in 1987, we have consistently held exhibitions exploring 20th and 21st century art history, focusing particularly on 1960s, 1970s and 1980s avant-garde. Significant artists, marginalized over time, have been reappraised, leading directly to renewed curatorial attention and museum acquisitions. Our programme has also included exhibitions of photography related to conceptual process or documentation of performance. We liaise with contemporary artists from several generations, and advise and act for the estates of artists and collectors. England & Co holds a regularly changing stock of 20th and 21st century art works, and the gallery’s distinctive, historically-aware identity reflects our research-based approach.

We have a long history of sales to museums and public collections internationally, and make loans to exhibitions at museums and institutions worldwide. Institutions who have acquired/loaned works from England & Co include Tate, Whitechapel; Hayward; Barbican; Australian National Gallery; Metropolitan Museum, NY; SF MOMA; Smithsonian; MALBA; Guggenheim Museum; Documenta; and the Venice Biennale.
