#LAF quarantine reads for May!

While galleries around the world remain temporarily closed due to COVID-19, they are still working hard to keep us inspired and connected to their artists.

As we put together our list of recommended exhibitions for the month, we faced one enormous question: How are online exhibitions helping us discover an extra layer of an artist work? We believe the key, might be a good quarantine read.

Read on to discover more about some of #LAFgalleries providing us with joyful in-depth content about their artists practice, works and lives for this month!

In 1946, Picasso visited the coastal town of Vallauris where he began exploring the potential of clay with intensity through a 25-year collaboration with the Madoura Pottery workshop.
This exhibition provides a comprehensive viewing room, narrating the breadth and evolution of Picasso’s practice in clay through short essays, video tour and 360 degrees views of works.

An astonishing exhibition of rare prints by Paul Nash and CRW Nevinson from The Great War and its aftermath. Both men, were official war artists and exposed the horrors of the first mechanized war through their works.
This exhibition brings us an extraordinary online catalogue featuring an insightful essay by Amy Tibble, with catalogue notes on some of the artist most famous works.

This May, the gallery was due to present a collection of Leon Kossoff’s ‘old master’ drawings. However, due to COVID-19 cancellations, the gallery is displaying the drawings virtually supported by a three-part series of short essays dedicated to Leon Kossoff.
InSight No. VIIIX and X take us in a journey of Kossoff’s works, starting with his large-scale masterpiece: Study from ‘Minerva Protects Pax from Mars’ by Rubens to his 1970s work: Dalston Lane.

Conducted by Gallery Director, Alexander Caspari, this interview provides an enticing dive into the artistic career of Nicolas Feldmeyer.
The journey immerses us in the artist’s fascination for reconstructing in great detail small everyday moments and joys of working in the periphery of painting, photography and drawing.
