Animators from around the world have come together in attempt to put an uplifting spin on the lockdown experience.
Twenty-twenty: the year the world was turned upside down. Some will say they predicted it – most would’ve laughed in disbelief. But here we are, on day fourty-something (or was it fifty-something?) of lockdown.
During a time of uncertainty, disturbance and at it’s worst – loss, creatives and studios have assigned themselves the mission of bringing some positivity to the world when it is needed most (whilst combatting the tedium of life under lockdown as a bonus).
#Flattenthecurve is a compilation video of over 90 uplifting clips based on lockdown experiences of animators across the world.
Organisers and award-winning filmmaker founders of London animation boutique Studio Desk, Kathrin Steinbacher and Emily Downe, began the project with a call for animators to contribute a short clip demonstrating something positive they had experienced during lockdown. They received a strong response, with over 140 animators around the world signing up. The first released compilation of quarantine highlights a diverse yet relatable fusion of ‘snapshots’, from touching to humorous, artistic to winsome.
Studio Desk: “After the outbreak of COVID-19 and the beginnings of global lockdown, we sent out a call to animators from around the world to send us a short animation depicting something positive they have experienced, seen, or thought in the midst of this strange time.”
Over 90 animators sent us their contributions, and this is the first film our of a series of three. We hope it will encourage people to stay home and see that there are still some positives to come of it.”
