In Conversation with Lucy Giles

Contemporary artist Lucy Giles creates a unique pictorial language through her abstract compositions which use various media including oil on canvas, plywood, paper and card.

Often working in her studio at night as she looks over London, many of Lucy’s works are inspired by the moon as well as drawing inspiration from other elements of nature.  

We asked the artist a few short questions to get to know the process and drive behind her work. See her answers below.

Which themes resonate within your work?

 

‘My work describes a very personal pictorial language that has become increasingly more abstract over the past 20 plus years…

Working from sketchbook studies full of shapes & colour; I go onto decode in the studio onto canvas.’

 

What is the main thing you want people to take from your work?

 

‘The joy of painting.’

 

Describe your creative process in 3 words.

 

‘Observe, record, rhythm.’
