In Conversation with Sophie Charalambous

Sophie Charalambous is an award-winning London-based artist, whose works on paper ranging from drawing to watercolour and mono-printing, are influenced by her Cypriot roots and inspired by the Island’s flora and fauna, folk art, ancient history and festivals which are re-imagined into these highly personal landscapes.

We asked the artist a few short questions to understand her creative process and inspiration. See her answers below.

Which themes resonate within your work?

 

‘Landscape, rituals and the cycles of nature.’

 

What is the main thing you want people to take from your work?

 

‘There is magic in the familiar.’
